Responsibilities of the intern include primary medical care of inpatients and evaluation of outpatients presented to the clinic, under the supervision of senior staff members. One-on-one interaction with senior faculty, independent of students and residents, provides the intern an unconstrained case experience. Interns are required to participate in a weekly journal club with the senior staff and a monthly grand rounds offered to local veterinary practitioners by Sonora Veterinary Specialists. Two in-depth seminars, delivered to an audience of specialists and local veterinary practitioners, are required. The opportunity to attend surgical rounds discussions with local physicians, and attend local veterinary continuing education seminars is also available. To strengthen their Curriculum Vitae interns are strongly encouraged to submit a scientific publication. This internship is a rigorous program geared towards people that seek future residency training. Advancement obviously depends most significantly on the quality, motivation, and productivity of the candidate, but our program has been very successful at preparing and placing people in residency programs.

The hospital is equipped with a full range of diagnostic and treatment equipment as described above. Academic support provisions include an extensive in-house library, comprehensive libraries available at Arizona State University and at the University of Arizona Medical School, radiology and cardiology teaching files, and computer on-line access and slide making availability.

We deliver high quality veterinary specialty services to an affluent, educated clientele. This internship offers a unique challenge to the highly motivated individual seeking an academic experience in a private practice setting.
